In 1463, on the Bruges market square, Philippe de Lalaing challenged other sumptuously-attired knights to a pas d’armes – a minutely codified chivalric game –, pretending to be held prisoner by the Lady of the Perron Fée. The two manuscripts edited here tell diverging versions of the game’s fictional scenario.
