Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo was Madagascar’s greatest poet. Inspired by symbolism, surrealism and local geography and folklore, this collection goes back and forth between the French and the Malagasy, suggesting the feeling of being torn apart between two cultures that may explain the author’s suicide.
