This study focuses on what the author of this study calls the “modern” grotesque, which had its bloom in the 20th century. The works of the following authors are analysed: Franz Kafka, Henry Miller, Céline, Samuel Beckett, Günter Grass, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Sony Labou Tansi, Philip Roth and Emir Kusturica.
