This is the critical edition of the letters by the painter Ingres which give insight in his personality, his life, artistic environment and his works. This edition consists of two complementary yet independent volumes. The first volume, the Lettres de France et d’Italie covers the years 1804-1841. The second volume describes Ingres’ glorious years as a famous painter (1841-1867).
