UN CHRISTIANISME "SANS PARTIALITE"

Irénisme et méthode chez John Dury (v.1600-1680)

LECHOT PIERRE-OLIVIER

The present study deals with the works and thinking of John Dury (1600-1680), a Scottish Calvinist minister, prolific\preacher, pamphleteer and writer. It focuses in particular on Dury’s affiliation with irenicism, i.e. the importance of unity in\the Christian church. The reappearance of numerous yet unknown manuscripts and new historical findings on the protestant theology of the 17th century asks for a re-evaluation of Dury’s yet largely unknown works. With the help of Dury’s thinking and his way of life the author gives new insights into the religious, intellectual and cultural history of 17th century Europe.
